Distance: ~3–5 miles off Oak Island
Depth: 35–45 ft
Why it’s great:
- Good for days when you want something close but less crowded
- Excellent fall trout and Spanish mackerel zones
Oak Island’s best snorkeling reef
Depth: 35–45 ft
Why it works:
- On calm, clear days (especially July–September), visibility can hit 20–30 ft.
- Some structure comes up to the midwater column.
- Close to shore = less chop, shorter swim, safer conditions.
Snorkeling Tips:
- Go during incoming tide for the clearest water.
- Use a dive flag (required).
- Stay directly above the structure; don’t dive deep unless freediving.
