Distance: ~5 miles off Ocean Isle Beach
Depth: 45–55 ft
What’s here: Pipes, rubble, reef balls
Why it’s great:
- Very close to Shallotte Inlet
- Great for flounder, sheepshead, black sea bass
- Easy half-day trip
Depth: 45–55 ft (deeper, but sometimes clear up top)
Snorkel rating: ⚠️ Tricky
Why it can work:
- On exceptional visibility days (after several calm days), upper-water bait and spadefish congregate.
- Lots of structure, though most of it is too deep for casual snorkelers.
Only snorkel here if:
- It’s very calm,
- Water visibility is 20+ ft,
- And you’re comfortable drifting above deeper water.
