Distance: ~5 miles off Ocean Isle Beach
Depth: 45–55 ft
What’s here: Pipes, rubble, reef balls
Why it’s great:

  • Very close to Shallotte Inlet
  • Great for flounder, sheepshead, black sea bass
  • Easy half-day trip

Depth: 45–55 ft (deeper, but sometimes clear up top)
Snorkel rating: ⚠️ Tricky
Why it can work:

  • On exceptional visibility days (after several calm days), upper-water bait and spadefish congregate.
  • Lots of structure, though most of it is too deep for casual snorkelers.

Only snorkel here if:

  • It’s very calm,
  • Water visibility is 20+ ft,
  • And you’re comfortable drifting above deeper water.
